Medicap joins fights against flu and opioids
The Medicap Pharmacy in Austin is working to fight both the flu and opioid addiction.
For every flu shot given, the pharmacy is donating $1 to Mower County schools, to help create and instill awareness of how dangerous drugs can be when used incorrectly, or for recreational purposes. As of mid-January, over $1,700 had been raised.
The “Take One to Save One” slogan highlights the two purposes. First, you can save a life — your own or a loved one — by getting a flu shot. Or, by getting the shot, the donation funds may help educate a student to respect medications and drugs to save their own life.
“Whichever the situation, we hope that what we do here in our pharmacy may have a great impact within our communities,” said pharmacy officials, in a recent letter to the schools. Included in the letter to schools are statistics outlining the accelerated use of opioids in recent years.
For the last couple of years, the pharmacy has created campaigns that revolved around getting a flu shot. For every vaccine administered, it donated $1 back to the Mower County Senior Center and The Arc.
