The Hayfield girls basketball team continues to find new players to contribute as it beat Rochester Lourdes (11-7 overall, 6-3 HVL) 70-66 on the road Friday.
This time it was junior Brooke Bungum who poured in a career-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds for the Vikings (14-3 overall, 8-1 HVL) and Emma Holst also stepped up with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Hayfield played the game with three regular starters and two bench players out of the lineup due to injury. The Vikings played the same five players for much of the game as the bench was depleted.
“It was the iron five tonight,” Hayfield co-head coach Kasey Krekling said. “They had a really good last two days of practice and they knew it was their time. They’ve been behind this group their whole lives and they’ve been vying for their chance. They made it count. I”m very proud of how the girls played this week.”

Hayfield scoring: Brooke Bungum, 23; Elecia Brown, 14; Abby Stasko, 13; Kate Kruger, 11; Emma Holst, 9; free throws: 45 percent (17-for-22)
