Travis Donald Chadbourn, 35, of Austin, was charged on Wednesday with two counts of felony domestic assault in Mower County District Court.

According to the court complaint, a woman contacted the police at 10:32 a.m. on Monday to report that Chadbourn had threatened to “slit” her mother’s throat. Police arrived at the residence in the 700 block of 11th Avenue Southwest and spoke to Chadbourn and the woman’s mother.

The mother, who was sitting in the back of a moving truck, told police Chadbourn was supposed to move out of the residence. She said she was trying to get him into a mental health program. Chadbourn told police that she yelled at him to move out, but denied threatening her. Police cleared the scene at 11:39 a.m.

The woman’s mother called the police at 1:21 p.m. and said that Chadbourn had struck her and was making suicidal statements, according to the complaint.  She said she was going to go to the Mower County Law Enforcement Center after returning the moving truck.

Officers went back to the residence, where Chadbourn said he and the mother had argued, according to the complaint. He told police, “I didn’t hit (her). I didn’t do nothing.” He said she slipped on the cat’s water bowl and hurt her eye on the counter. Police found the water bowl, but saw no water spilled on the floor.

An officer met with the mother at the Mower County Law Enforcement Center and observed a swollen area and bruising around her right eye, according to the complaint.

She said while they were arguing, Chadbourn pushed her into a corner. When she pushed him back, he allegedly struck her.

A review of Chadbourn’s criminal record shows prior convictions for domestic assault and violating an order of protection, both out of Le Sueur County.

In Minnesota, felony domestic assault carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Chadbourn will appear in court again on Jan. 12.
