Appointments, rental property ordinance on City Council agenda tonight

The Austin City Council will be making appointments and reappointments to various boards and commissions during its regular meeting tonight.

The Port Authority, Sustainability Task Force, Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Park and Recreation Board, Fire Civil Service Commission, Police Civil Service Commission, Cable TV Committee, Human Rights Commission, Planning Commission, AHS Going Green Club, Library Board, Austin/Mower County Homeownership Board and Pillars of the City Committee will have current members reappointed.

The Planning Commission, Library Board and Human Rights Commission will be receiving new members.

City Planning and Zoning Director Holly Wallace will be discussing a rental property draft ordinance during the council’s work session following the meeting. The proposed ordinance will allow the city to inspect rental properties for code violations and require that the violations be fixed before the property can be rented out.

The council meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the Council Chambers in the basement of City Hall. The work session will be held in Conference Room A across the hall from the Council Chambers immediately following the meeting.
