Street improvements on City Council agenda; Utilities official to present critical water usage ordinance

The Austin City Council will be receiving feasibility reports and calling for a public hearing on planned street improvements for 2018 during its next regular meeting.

The Public Works department plans to make street improvements at 19th Street Northeast, Fifth Street Northwest, 14th Avenue Southwest, Fifth Street Southeast and First Street Northwest next year.

The council is calling for the public hearing on Feb. 20.

The council will also be voting to grant licenses to various local businesses and hold a public hearing to renew the currency exchange license for Tienda Y Taqueria Guerrero.

The council will discuss assessment rates for street reconstruction projects at its work session following the regular meeting.

Austin Utilities General Manager Mark Nibaur will talk about a proposed ordinance on regulating nonessential water usage in the event of a critical water deficiency. The council will review and vote on approval of the ordinance, which has been approved by the Austin Utilities Board of Commissioners.

The council’s next regular meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, in the council chambers in the basement of City Hall. The work session will take place in Conference Room A, across the hall from the Chambers, immediately follow the regular meeting.
