Secretary and treasure reports were read and accepted.

Old business: Fern Paschke reported taking a gift certificate to Joyce Juhnke, who has left our club and moved to Colorado. After some discussion we decided to wait until the December meeting as to where to give our holiday donation. There was no new business.

Sharon Willis made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by LaVonne Skov. Hazel Schlicting will host the December meeting.

Ida Foster gave the main topic,  “Bizarre History. “

Unique and unusual artifacts to the Mower County Historical Society:

1. A red velvet reclining chair dating back to the 1900s.

2. Dr. Pierce Golden Medical Discovery, an elixir in a bottle from the 1800s.

3. An alligator foot coin purse of the late 1800s.

4.A human hair, flower shaped wreath in 1900.

5. The Taopi table, which outlaw Jesse James played cards on, while he was in Taopi in 1876, the same year the James-Younger gang killed a bank clerk and a civilian in a failed attempt to rob the bank in Northfield, Minnesota.

Fern gave the outside reading titled,  “The Bog That Ate Legionville. “

Legionville was a school safety patrol camp on Long Lake near Brainerd, Minnesota. It was invaded by a massive bog containing dead plant materials and a row of Pamarach trees that broke loose from a shoreline nearby and settled in front of the school camp.

It’s about five acres larger and now needs to be moved back to its original site before the lake freezes.

Rena served a delicious pumpkin dessert.
