An Austin man suffered injuries after being struck by a bus Monday afternoon while crossing a street near Austin High School.

Doug Snater, 65, was walking westbound at 3:18 p.m. on Monday along the south side of West Oakland Avenue when he was struck by a school bus full of kids while crossing Fourth Street, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger. The bus was making a left turn onto Fourth Street.

Snater told emergency responders that he might have been in the bus’s blind spot, so the driver may not have seen him, Krueger said.

Snater had a cut on his forehead and bruising on his upper right arm. He was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin by a Gold Cross ambulance.

The city attorney is reviewing the case to see if any charges will be brought against the bus driver, a 57-year-old man. The State Patrol was notified to do a commercial inspection of the school bus.
