In brief: Learn about birding at ‘Winter is for the Birds’  in Mitchell County

OSAGE, Iowa — Add some wild color to your life by feeding wintertime birds. Mitchell County Conservation Board Naturalist, Chelsea Ewen Rowcliffe will be the instructor for  a free program from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Milton R. Owen Nature Center, just west of Osage on Highway 9. Participants will learn about winter bird feeding, what species are visiting feeders, and how to attract the most birds to your backyard. They will also be making bird treats to take home.

Dress for the weather, as the group will take a leisurely birding hike around the nature center. Interested people are asked to please call the nature center at 641-732-5204 to sign up to ensure there are enough supplies.

Mayo Clinic Health System Auxiliary hosts “$6 Sale” Dec. 18

The auxiliary at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin will host a “$6 Sale” from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18. The fundraiser will be  on the main floor at the medical center, by the piano near the eye clinic.

Choose from a selection of jewelry, scarves, apparel, accessories and more. Classic, trendy and seasonal products are available for women, men, and children. Proceeds support auxiliary projects at the medical center.
