The Southland boys basketball team opened its season on a high note as it edged out Goodhue (0-1 overall) 55-54 on the road Friday.

The Rebels (1-0 overall) trailed 12-1 to start the game and they trailed 26-16 at halftime, but they were able to bounce back and take the lead. Southland held a late four-point lead when Goodhue banked in a three-pointer.

“We made a great run in the second half. We had a lot of kids step up and make some big shots,” Southland head coach Matt Webber said.
