Austin man pleads guilty to drug possession

Samuel Michael Tanner, 35, of Austin pleaded guilty to felony second-degree possession of 25 grams or more of methamphetamine on Wednesday in Mower County District Court.
He was originally charged with felony first-degree possession of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, but received a reduced charge as part of a plea agreement.
According to the court complaint, police executed a search warrant at 10:55 a.m. on Nov. 14 at Tanner’s residence in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest. Prior to the search, officers found Tanner and issued him a copy of the warrant. He told officers he had approximately two ounces of methamphetamine in his bedroom and had used methamphetamine the previous day. He was taken to the Mower County Jail.
In Minnesota, felony second-degree possession of 25 grams or more of methamphetamine carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
Sentencing is Dec. 28.
