Man who tried stealing office supplies, meat pleads guilty; Ingersoll arrested inside the Herald in January 2017 with items in possession

Brandon Lee Ingersoll, 33, of Austin pleaded guilty to charges of felony third-degree burglary and gross misdemeanor fifth-degree drug possession on Friday in Mower County District Court as part of a plea agreement. A charge of felony second-degree theft will be dropped at sentencing.

Ingersoll also pleaded guilty to a second charge of felony third-degree burglary in another case. A charge of felony first-degree burglary-possession of a dangerous weapon will be dropped at sentencing.
Ingersoll was arrested on Jan. 4 after he was observed via a remote surveillance system stealing a computer and other office supplies from the Austin Daily Herald building. Police executed a search warrant on his residence in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue Northwest and found a Microsoft Surface tablet stolen from the Austin Daily Herald building and a small amount of methamphetamine.
Ingersoll was arrested again on July 15 after he was caught trying to steal meat from a freezer in a garage in the 1200 block of Fifth Avenue Northwest. The homeowner trapped him in the garage and called police.
In Minnesota, felony third-degree burglary carries a maximum penalty of five years I prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
Ingersoll will be sentenced in both cases on Feb. 15.
