Hayward Democrat announces House District 27A candidacy

Thomas Martinez of Hayward has announced he is running as a Democrat in Minnesota House District 27A. Election Day is Nov. 6, 2018.

Rep. Peggy Bennett of Albert Lea is the Republican incumbent. She was first elected in 2014. The GOP controls the House by a 77-57 margin.

Martinez works as a driver for Thompson Sanitation. In 2016, he was a district and state delegate for Bernie Sanders during the presidential primaries.

• First Congressional District candidate Vicki Jensen, D-Owatonna has been endorsed by Nicollet County Commissioner Jack Kolars.

First Congressional District candidate Joe Sullivan, D-Mankato, challenged Republican opponents to join him in opposing the newly released Republican tax reform bill.

• Denis McDonough, former chief of staff to President Barack Obama and native Minnesotan, has endorsed First Congressional District candidate Dan Feehan, D-North Mankato.

• Congressman Tim Walz and Rep. Peggy Flanagan have announced that Nick Coe will serve as campaign manager for the Walz for Governor Campaign. Coe is a veteran DFL organizer who served as field organizer in southern Minnesota for President Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012, regional field director for Sen. Al Franken’s 2014 campaign, and organizing director of the Minnesota DFL Coordinated Campaign in 2016.

“When I decided to run for governor, I knew that I wanted an organizer to run my campaign,” Walz said.
