City Council approves UAW labor agreements

The Austin City Council unanimously approved three UAW 2017-2019 labor agreements during their regular meeting on Monday evening.
The agreements were for UAW Local 867 employees of Park and Recreation, Street and Sewer Maintenance, and the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The three-year agreement included the following terms:
• Wages, including non-union, will increase by three percent in 2017 (retroactive back to Jan. 1, 2017), another three percent increase in 2018, and an increase of 2¼ percent in 2019;
• Increase the City’s health insurance contribution/cap by $100 per month for family coverage (to $1,100 per month) and by $25 per month for single coverage (to $425 per month), retroactive to Jan. 1, 2017;
• Changes to insurance wording allowing the City to offer one base health insurance plan giving the City the ability to make changes to future plan(s);
• Decrease in the opt-out payment provided to employees with other insurance coverage by $10 per month (down to $215 per month);
• Uniform allowance increase from $175 to $200 annually; and
• Increase in meal efficiency allowance from $8 to $10.
Members of the three UAW union groups approved all of the terms before the Council’s vote. The agreements will be in effect through December 31, 2019.
