Brent Lynn Zietz, 57, of Mesa, Arizona, (formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa) passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 29, 2017, due to injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident northeast of Mesa.
Brent was born in Minot, North Dakota, on Sept. 16, 1960, to Lester and Lenore (Benton) Zietz of Underwood, North Dakota. He spent his first three years in Burlington, North Dakota, before moving to Underwood. He played football in high school, and graduated from Underwood High School in 1978. He was an accomplished trumpet player, including a performance tour in Europe. Brent was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Underwood and served his Lord faithfully throughout his life. His heart for God expressed itself in tools ministry, by which he helped neighbors, friends, and family to repair or install anything they needed help with. Prior to retiring to Mesa with his wife Janet, Brent worked for Hormel Foods and attended Cornerstone Church, both of Austin.
Brent enjoyed ice fishing, swimming at the dam, and taking in the scenic views while riding motorcycle. Most everyone knew that his favorite holiday was the Fourth of July. Many happy memories were made every year with family and friends, whether celebrating at the farm or up in North Dakota. His smile and laughter will truly be missed.
Brent is survived by his parents, Les and Lenore; wife, Janet; two sons, Blake (Melissa Akkerman) of Austin, and Bryce of Fort Collins, Colorado; two daughters, Amanda O’Shea (James Johnson) and granddaughters, Kiara and Kimani of Nevada, and Theresa (Ryan) Hendricks and granddaughters Sarah and Emily of Maryland; seven siblings, Brian (Tricia) of Marion, Montana, Bob (Deitta) of Underwood, Brenda (Lloyd) Hultberg of Bismarck, North Dakota, Barry (Emily) of Underwood, Bonnie (Terry) Landenberger of Bismarck, Blaine (Beth Seaman Schwarz) of Parshall, North Dakota, and Becki (Fred) Wilson of Underwood; two stepchildren, Amanda (Joe) Nielsen and stepgrandson Eli of Garretson, South Dakota, and Brett Nielsen of San Diego, California; stepgrandmother, Helen Benton of Minot; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Brent’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 on St. John’s Lutheran Church in Underwood.
