Austin High School students Eric Yang, Meshon Baxter, Joey Engelman, and Garrett Johnson recently participated in the annual SkillsUSA State Leadership Training Conference held in Alexandria and brought home several awards.
The conference, a three-day event designed to prepare future leaders, brought together numerous high schools and technical colleges from across Minnesota.
During the conference, these students participated in a number of activities that developed leadership, public speaking, creative problem-solving, team building, and critical thinking. These skills will be carried on by these students for life, and help them become leaders in both SkillsUSA and the workforce.
According to executive director of SkillsUSA Minnesota Jennifer Polz, “the skills learned and improved at this conference are the ones that will benefit these students their entire life. In addition, they will help our entire country by being better prepared skilled workers and leaders as they pursue their careers.”
Austin High School had an exceptional performance at the event, earning two blue ribbons, three red ribbons, and two white ribbons.
SkillsUSA is a nationwide partnership of businesses, industry, career and technical instructors and students. SkillsUSA membership consists of 330,000 high school and technical students in 15,000 chapters.
