Arts council awards grants in region

The city of Adams and four other Austin-based organizations have received Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) grants.

SEMAC is the State Arts Board-designated granting authority for local and regional arts producing and sponsoring organizations and disburses funds allocated for this purpose by the Minnesota State Legislature.

Adams received a $3,000 Small Towns/Rural Areas grant for its 150th celebration.

The Austin Community Band, the Austin Symphony Orchestra and Matchbox Children’s Theatre all received $3,000 Presenter/Production Assistance grants. The community band received the grant for its summer concert series; the orchestra’s grant is to help with costs for Sarah Chang’s appearance with the ASO in May; and the theater’s grant is for the costs associated with its presentation of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” in February.

The Austin Area Commission for the Arts received a $5,500 Arts & Cultural Heritage grant for children’s visual arts education in 2018.
