Trial for Austin man accused of attempted murder postponed; Kuoviy Omot facing 5 felony charges

The trial for an Austin man who faces five felony charges, including attempted murder, has been postponed until March 2018.
Kuoviy Kwot Omot, 21, was arrested for allegedly shooting another man in the leg during a Jan. 27 drug deal at Western Manor.
Omot faces first-degree attempted murder, with intent, while committing a felony; second-degree attempted murder, with intent, not premeditated; possession of a firearm by person convicted or adjudicated delinquent of a crime of violence; attempted aggravated robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon; and second-degree assault, dangerous weapon, substantial bodily harm.
The attempted murder charges bring with them a maximum of up to 20 years in prison.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for March 2, 2018, with a jury trial set for 9 a.m. on March 12, 2018, in Mower County District Court.
