The Historic Hormel Home and the Mower County Historical Society will be hosting the first walking tour of Oakwood Cemetery at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22.
Mower County Historical Society Curator Jaimie Timm will lead the tour, which will feature stories and trivia about some of the cemetery’s residents. Local favorites George and Lillian Hormel and George Hirsh will be included along with some lesser known (and infamous) individuals like Eurnice Rice, Chauncey Leverich and J.B. Yates.
Space is limited to 15 people per tour. Tours will last about one hour and will remain on the paved paths. Tour guests will be directed where to park upon entering the cemetery. Cost is $8 for members of the Mower County Historical Society and/or the Hormel Historic Home and $10 for non-members. Advance ticket purchase is required.
In case of inclement weather, the tour will take place on Oct. 29.
