Melvin Duane Emery, 68, of Waseca, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at his home in Waseca.
He was born Nov. 19, 1948, in Austin, the son of Victor and Viola (Peterson) Emery. He graduated from Hayfield (Minnesota) High School in 1967. Following graduation, Melvin served with the U.S. Army in Germany. He returned to Minnesota where he was united in marriage to Karen Mullins on April 17, 1982, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in North St. Paul, Minnesota, where Melvin worked as an electronic technician for several companies, including Capital Electronics and later Seagate Electronics. The couple later divorced. Melvin retired in the early 1990s due to health concerns. He enjoyed being out in nature and loved to care for many house plants he raised. For the past several years, Melvin made his home in Waseca.
Survivors include his children, Tiffany Emery, Greggory (Valerie) Emery and Justin (Amy Bruender) Kamp, all of Austin; a grandson, Jacob Miller of Austin; a brother, Victor (Beverly) Emery of Waseca; a sister, Victoria Gammey of Mio, Michigan; two nephews and four nieces; his former wife, Karen Emery of Austin; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Velma Emery.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery with military honors by members of American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.
