Heavy black smoke leads to citation

A 22 year-old man was issued a citation after burning plastics and other items in an open fire pit Tuesday night.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, an officer was on patrol at 11:14 p.m. Tuesday when he saw a fire in the backyard of a residence in the 1000 block of West Oakland Avenue. The officer observed plastics and other items burning in an open fire pit, producing heavy black smoke.
The 22 year-old told the officer he did not live there, then admitted he did.
The Austin Fire Department responded to the scene and put out the fire.
The man was cited for burning items deemed illegal under city ordinance.
