Off to the races this weekend in Austin

Runners, walkers and puzzle solvers have a selection of races to choose from Saturday in Austin.
Austin Utilities is putting on its first Share the Heat 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk.
Queen of Angels Catholic Church will be hosting a 1 Mile Walk-a-thon.
The Hormel Young Professionals Enterprise Community Service Committee is serving up the second annual Spamazing Race.
Here are the details:
Share the Heat 5K
Austin Utilities will be hosting the first annual Share the Heat 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk on Saturday.
Entry into both races costs $25 for participants age 11 and older. Participants 10 and under are free. T-shirts can be purchased for $15, if available.
Proceeds from the race will go towards HeatShare, a Salvation Army program that provides emergency utility assistance to the elderly, the disabled, and anyone else in need of assistance. Funds are typically used to pay for natural gas, electricity and propane.
Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Austin Utilities, located at 1908 14th St. NE. The race will begin at 9 a.m.
Registration ends at 11:59 a.m. on Friday. Register online at www.austinutilities.com.

Austin Family 1 Mile Walk-a-thon and Fall Carnival
Queen of Angels Catholic Church will be hosting a 1 Mile Walk-a-thon, followed by the Fall Carnival, on Saturday.
The day begins at 8 a.m. with breakfast provided by the Knights of Columbus (free will offering appreciated) in Cunningham Hall. The Walk-a-thon begins after breakfast, going from the church to the Bandshell and back.
Strollers and pets are permitted, but please no bicycles, skateboards or rollerblades.
The Fall Carnival begins at 10 a.m. and will feature carnival games, inflatable obstacle course, dunk tank, face painting, photo booth and more. There will be a special guest appearance by the Austin Bruin’s mascot, Bruiser the Bear, as well as lots of prizes.

Second annual Spamazing Race
The Hormel Young Professionals Enterprise (HYPE) Community Service Committee will be hosting the second annual Spamazing Race on Saturday. The event is based on the show “The Amazing Race” and will have teams competing in a variety of challenges while highlighting Austin businesses.
The entry fee is $30 for a team of two. Proceeds go toward Project Spammy, a program that supports nutrition, educational programming and leadership development in Guatemala.
If your team raises the most additional funds above the $30 entry fee, you get a competitive advantage in the race.
Packet pick-up starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Hormel Corporate South parking lot, located at 1101 North Main St. The race starts at 9 a.m.
