The Southland football team picked up its first win in a big way as it beat Kingsland (0-3 overall) 43-8 in Adams Friday.

The Rebels (1-2 overall) were missing five players and three two-way starters from their regular lineup, but they had a few younger players step up. Freshman Noah Sayles ran for 90 yards and a touchdown and senior Jared Landherr had 79 yards of offense and two scores.

“Our younger kids stepped up,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said. “I didn’t want to have to play young kids and we tried to rotate kids for a series and platoon to keep them fresh. Our older kids did a good job of leading and It was a true team effort.”
