Y’s Women’s Club

Y’s Women of the Hormel Historic Home began their new season Sept. 14 with a trip to the Bily Clocks Museum in Spillville, Iowa.

It was a special treat to see these truly beautiful, artistic, and detailed clocks all hand carved by the Bily brothers.

They started their hobby in 1913 using  many types of woods  from foreign countries and North America.   In 1946 the brothers moved the collection to Spillville.  None of the clocks were ever sold.  One million dollars was offered for one of the clocks but the brothers turned it down as they wanted this to be strictly a hobby.  You would have to see these clocks to believe how uniquely designed they are.

Members then enjoyed lunch at the Restauration, a beautiful hotel and opera house in Decorah, Iowa.

Dues were collected by Anita Ulwelling, treasurer. Club books were made and distributed by Connie Olson.

The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the Hormel Home. Nelly Croes will share her experiences during World War II.
