The Riverland Community College Theater Department will kick off its 2017-18 season in early October with the play “R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots).”

The season will feature four plays in total spanning through out the school year featuring comedy, drama and more.

As the season progresses into the spring half, the department will break new ground when it presents a play created by students, faculty and community members that addresses the topic of immigration in Austin.

The as-of-yet titled show will explore stories, cultures and experiences of the people from around the world that now call Austin, Minnesota home according to a press release.

All together, this season marks a year of variety on the Frank W. Bridges Stage.

“I’m so excited about this season’s variety of shows,” said Riverland Theatre Director Lindsey Duoos Williams in the press release. ‘R.U.R.’ is an incredibly timely piece of theater that I think will resonate with modern audiences despite how long ago it was written. ‘She Loves Me,’ is simply one of the most charming and funny musical comedies every written, and I’m surprised in our fifty years of shows at the Frank W. Bridges Theatre it has never been produced here. ‘Avenue Q’ is a show that we’ve received lots of requests to do. It is one of the funniest comedies to be performed on Broadway in the 21st century, and I can’t wait for our audiences to see it.”
