Jonathan David Wigham, 35, of Blooming Prairie was charged with felony terroristic threats and felony domestic assault by strangulation on Tuesday in Mower County District Court.
According to the court report, an officer responded to a domestic assault call at 12:32 p.m. on Sunday in the 2200 block of Fourth Drive Southwest.
A woman at the residence said she got into an argument with Wigham, who took her cell phone and refused to give it back. She said he threw her to the floor, slammed her head against the floor, straddled her and strangled her for 30-60 seconds. She got away and tried to get her phone, but Wigham threw her onto the couch and strangled her again. She said she was afraid he would kill her.
The woman said Wigham strangled her two more times, attempted to push her down the stairs, placed her in a headlock and threw her on the floor again before finally calming down. During the assault, her earrings were pulled from her ears.
She said Wigham had assaulted her previously, but she never reported it.
An officer photographed injuries on both sides of her neck and bruises on her right wrist, left forearm and top of her left hand.
While at the Mower County Jail, Wigham said he tried to leave when the argument got “heated,” but the victim blocked the doorway. He said he grabbed her by the throat to throw her out of the way and admitted to straddling and strangling her. He told police he put her in the headlock to keep her from pushing him.
