A woman who allegedly broke into her ex-boyfriend’s apartment and stole his wallet pleaded not guilty on Thursday in Mower County District Court.
Janjay Glay Kiahon, 23, of Austin faces charges of felony first-degree burglary-occupied dwelling, felony second-degree burglary-unoccupied dwelling and misdemeanor theft.
According to the court report, Austin police responded to a burglary call on Aug. 20 to the 800 block of Fourth Street Northwest. The male resident said his ex-girlfriend, Kiahon, had kicked in his door. While looking for his identification, he realized his wallet, which contained two, $100 bills, was missing.
Kiahon denied damaging the door. When asked about the wallet, Kiahon surrendered the item and denied taking the money, which was not in her possession.
Kiahon told police her ex-boyfriend had texted her that night about ending the relationship and she went over to his place and knocked on the door. He did not answer, so she pounded on it with her shoe and the door opened. She claimed she did not kick it or force it open. She said when she went inside, he was not there, so she took his wallet so he would have to come to her residence to get it and they could talk.
Kiahon’s pre-trial is Dec. 29.
