Police are looking for a man who attempted to purchase soda with a counterfeit $100 bill.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers responded to a call of an employee receiving a counterfeit $100 bill at 6:43 a.m. Wednesday at Ankeny’s Mini Mart  No. 5 at 1400 14th St. NW.

The employee told police that two white vans pulled up, one each at the north and south exits, and a white male in a dark hoodie exited one of the vehicles. He came in and tried to purchase two cans of soda with the counterfeit bill. When the employee told the man the bill was fake, he said not to worry about it, threw the bill on the floor and ran out the store. He entered the van at the south exit, which then drove away. The employee was unable to get the license plate.
