An Austin woman who allegedly forged several checks pleaded not guilty to felony check forgery – making or altering checks in Mower County District Court on Monday.
Andrea Ann Barrera-Constancio, 49, was arrested on July 28 after police responded to a call at the Sterling State Bank regarding a forged $850 check.
According to the court report, the bank employee told the officer that Barrera-Constancio and the check’s owner were in his office. The check was made out to Barrera-Constancio.
The account owner, who was Barrera-Constancio’s landlord, denied writing her a check. Barrera-Constancio said she wrote it.
The landlord and the banker provided the officer with evidence of other forged checks made out to Barrera-Constancio and Jim’s Supervalu.
The landlord said he believed Barrera-Constancio had stolen his checkbook from his vehicle and that she had previously stolen and forged his checks.
Barrera-Constancio is scheduled for a pre-trial on Dec. 1.
