River Rats car show to honor veterans

Turn your love of cars into an opportunity to honor United States veterans by attending the third annual River Rats Car Club Car Show Saturday at Lafayette Park.

“We’ve had anything from antique cars to modern hot rods to new cars and motorcycles,” said River Rats Car Club President John Devries. “It’s pretty much anything with four wheels.”

All proceeds will go toward paying for the Memorial Pavers at the Mower County Veteran’s Memorial.

“We don’t feel that someone who went through the service should pay for their own paver,” Devries said.

Food vendors will be present at the event. Beer and beverages will be available for purchase, as will crafts and swap meet items.

Entertainment will include games for children, live music and trivia.

Devries said a nitro car would also be on display.

For those interested in participating in the show, registration begins at 7 a.m. There is a $10 registration fee. The first 150 registrants will receive a pair of Army dog tags and a gift basket.

Devries said there is no limit to the number of vehicles that can be registered. The show begins at 11 a.m.

“It’s a good family activity in a nice setting,” Devries said “It’s a lot of fun for the family and there are a lot of nice cars.”
