Police seeking applicants for Citizen Academy

The Austin Police Department is still seeking applicants to participate in this year’s Citizen Academy.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said they currently have 12 participants signed-up. The maximum number they can take is 18.

“[Participants] will learn about the different responsibilities of the police department,” Krueger said. “We wear a lot of different hats.”

The six-week course will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, 19 and 26 and Oct. 3, 10 and 17 at the Law Enforcement Center, 201 First St. NE.

The program is free, though Krueger asks that those who sign-up plan to attend all sessions if possible.

The program is open to Austin residents or business owners ages 21 and up. Applications are available at the Law Enforcement Center or online at www.ci.austin.mn.us. A background check will be conducted on all applicants.
