An Austin man who allegedly had a stolen assault rifle in his home was charged in Mower County District Court on Monday.
Harley Manwell Roberts, 27, was charged with felony receiving stolen property, two gross misdemeanor charges of a user of a controlled substance being in possession of a firearm and petty misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the court report, officers executed a search warrant on Roberts’ residence at 8:39 a.m. on May 22 in the 500 block of 12th Street Northeast. Roberts answered the door and was immediately handcuffed. The home’s other tenant was not home at the time.
Police seized several marijuana pipes, various items if drug paraphernalia, .380 caliber ammunition, multiple electronic devices and four firearms: a Ruger SR556 assault rifle, an Astra A70 pistol, a Chiappa Firearms 1911-22 pistol and Jennings Firearms J-22 pistol. The serial number of the Ruger assault rifle matched that of one reported stolen in Waseca.
The other tenant came home and admitted to the police he had two small pieces, about 0.53 grams, of “marijuana wax” in his vehicle. Roberts told police the firearms belonged to the other tenant, who in turn denied they were his. Both admitted to firing the Ruger assault rifle.
Roberts is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 31.
