LaVonne Anna (Woolsey) Stevens, 92, died on Aug. 2, 2017, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin, Minnesota.

LaVonne Anna (Woolsey) Stevens, 92

LaVonne was born in Carroll, Iowa, to Floyd and Marie (Schilling) Woolsey on April 14, 1925. She attended High School in Atlantic, Iowa, where she met and married Clyde Gaines. There was one son born of this union, Ronald Gaines. She later married Jon Voss and a daughter was born to them, Vickie (Voss) Bush.

After moving to Austin, LaVonne started her 36 years of employment for Geo. A. Hormel and Company. During her retirement, she enjoyed many years of traveling and visited several countries overseas as well as many states in the United States. LaVonne was a great historian and shared her interests and travels with many. Her most cherished memories were of New Zealand and Alaska for their beauty.

LaVonne volunteered at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin hospital as an auxiliary member from 1982 until 1997. She was very dedicated in her service to others for 15 years. She had a great belief in God and recently started attending church services at Cornerstone Church in Austin. Prior to this, she was a member of Church of the Open Bible and Church of Christ in later years.

LaVonne lived at St. Mark’s Apartments for the past several years of her life and enjoyed playing cards and conversing with her fellow residents. She was very happy living there and spent time visiting friends and making new friends at St. Mark’s Nursing Home. Throughout her life, she had loved boating, fishing, water skiing, dancing, and new adventures. She loved reading and history. LaVonne was also very creative and enjoyed counted cross-stitch and made several beautiful pictures, many of them angels, for family and friends. She also enjoyed crafts of which she painted and she also liked to knit.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Ronald (Kathryn) Gaines, Rochester, Minnesota; and her daughter, Vickie (Voss) Bush, Owatonna, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Zachariah McDermott, Laura (Gaines) Wear, Michael Gaines and Steven Gaines; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. LaVonne has one sister, Marceline Aberg, Red Oak, Texas; and one brother, Ronald (Jim) Woolsey, Belvidere, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Marie Woolsey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin. Pastor David DeFor will be officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary one hour before services.
