The Austin Police Department held their annual fundraiser to raise money for the K-9 program on Sunday at Bandshell Community Park. The event raised over $2,000.

“It helps defer the cost of our K-9 program,” said Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.

The event attracted between 300 and 400 people. Guests were served hot dogs, chips and beverages. Police asked for a free will donation.

Guests were treated to K-9 demonstrations by Rudy, the Austin Police Department’s K-9 and K-9 Officer Derek Ellis. Officer John J. Mueller acted as a decoy, wearing a bite sleeve for Rudy during the demonstrations.

The event was sponsored by Willow Pet Hospital, Frito Lay, Hormel Foods, Double K Specialty, Hy-Vee and All Fur Dogs.

Krueger said that, although the event is over, the police department is accepting donations to the K-9 program year round.
