Gerard Academy in Austin has purchased flip flops for youth in residence to use as shower sandals, with the help of Basic Needs Funding provided by the Austin Area Foundation. The flip flops will ensure the health and safety for youth in care at the academy during bathing.

The Austin Area Foundation is a public charity whose purpose is to enhance giving in all sectors of the community. It partners with local nonprofit organizations to support and enhance critical area needs and opportunities.

Austin Area Foundation Executive Director Jeff Baldus, Gerard Academy Senior Development Coordinator Elaine Hansen, and Gerard Academy Associate Director Karen Wolf recently distributed the flip flops to the girls and boys at Gerard.

Wolf said Gerard residents were thrilled to get their own flip flops.

“This is just a really wonderful gift to our youth,” Wolf said. “We want the Austin Area Foundation to know that their gift has made a real difference in the life of these youth. We all just want to say ‘Thank you.’”

Gerard Academy is a 501(c)(3) providing residential services for youth ages 6-18 and outpatient therapy services for children, teens, and adults.
