Dwayne Thomas Olson, 83, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota, following a battle against cancer.

Dwayne was born on Nov. 28, 1933, in Spring Grove, Minnesota, to Thomas and Edna (Opsahl) Olson. He attended school in Fillmore County and enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War aboard the USS Henrico. He married Sharon Fjeseth on Oct. 15, 1966, in Minneapolis. Dwayne was a member of Local 512, and worked as an ironworker until his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf and attending wrestling meets. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and member of the Color Guard for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion. Dwayne was a longtime member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and enjoyed his many volunteer activities there.

Dwayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Don Bos of Owatonna, Minnesota; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jenni Olson of Iowa City, Iowa; and son, Jeremy Olson of Austin; grandchildren, Kristopher Bos of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Jordan Bos (and fiancée Jessica Sedivy) of Iowa Falls, Ryan Bos and Lillie Bos of Owatonna, and Annika Olson and Mia Olson of Iowa City; brother and sister-in-law, Verdon and Mona Olson of Spring Grove, Minnesota; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: David and Deborah Fjeseth of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Jarla and Darrell Johnson; sister, Gloria Olso; and brother-in-law, Gordon Fjeseth.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga, AiM officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on Monday morning for one hour before the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery with Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 VFW and Austin Post 91 American Legion in charge of military rites.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church building fund.
