An Austin man who allegedly solicited underage males for sex via social media appeared in Mower County District Court on Monday.

Rodger James Montgomery, 62, was charged with felony prostitution – hiring or agreeing to hire a 13- to 15-year-old minor, felony soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct through electronic communication and felony soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct.

According to the court report, the Austin Police Department learned Montgomery had solicited underage boys for sex via Facebook Messenger. A 15-year-old male victim sent the police photographs of messages  in which Montgomery offered him $100 to “clean,” and indicated he would pay $200 for sex.

He provided the victim with his home address.

Police also said Montgomery was soliciting other underage boys over the internet.

On Aug. 2, police executed a search warrant at Montgomery’s residence and seized two computer towers, a monitor, a router, a cell phone and a notebook containing usernames and passwords. Montgomery was extremely intoxicated and claimed his computer and cell phone had been hacked.

He was arrested and taken to Zumbro Valley Health Center detoxification unit.

Police met with the initial victim, who told them Montgomery offered him money to clean his residence. When he arrived at the residence, Montgomery was drunk and could barely stand.

The victim said Montgomery told him to go upstairs with him so they could “have fun,” at which point the victim left.

The victim told police Montgomery contacted him later that day and offered him $100 for a sexual encounter.

Montgomery is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 21.
