Summerfest returns to LeRoy

Published 9:01 am Thursday, July 13, 2017

LeRoy will hold its annual Summerfest celebration this weekend. With the slogan “Fun for Everyone,” this year’s festival looks to be just that.

“Summerfest provides activities and entertainment for all ages,” said LeRoy City Clerk-Treasurer Patty White. “There is something for everyone.”

Although the festival’s name has changed many times, LeRoy has held a summer celebration for almost 75 years.

This year’s festivities begin on Friday, July 14, with activities at the public library. There will also be a bean bag tournament, various races and a variety show.

The celebration will continue on Saturday, July 15, with a morning volleyball tournament, kids’ tractor pull, gardening contest, pony rides and kids’ carnival. Saturday will also include the 15th annual Car & Motorcycle Show and the seventh annual Ray Kiefer Memorial Tractor Pull. There will be a live performance by the Red Dirt Road Band on Saturday night.

Festivities will wrap up on Sunday, July 16, with a dunk tank, a grilled chicken dinner and the ever-popular parade.

“The parade is one of the favorite events,” White said. “The firemen’s chicken dinner is also a big draw. People come for the chicken dinner and stay for the parade.”

There will be vendors at South Park all weekend long. Travel Lanes will be charging $1 for all bowling games this weekend.

“Summerfest is special for the people of LeRoy and the surrounding community,” White said. “It brings the community together for fun, food, and entertainment. It is a time for class reunions and a time for people to ‘come home’ to the community they grew up in.”
