Shooting victim charged with having 296 grams of meth, 45 grams of marijuana

A man shot in the left leg on the morning of Saturday, July 8, is facing drug charges after police allegedly found 296.5 grams of methamphetamine — an estimated street value of $20,000 — in his home on the 800 block of Second Avenue Southwest.

Jesus Alejandro Ybarra, 23, of Austin is in Mower County Jail and has been charged with one county of felony first-degree drug possession of 50 grams or more of cocaine or methamphetamine.
According to a court report, police responded to the shooting incident at 12:58 a.m. on Saturday and found Ybarra had been shot just below the left kneecap. Ybarra was treated at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin, where he refused to talk to police and demanded an attorney. He was later moved to Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus for surgery.
Police then executed search warrants on Ybarra’s residence. Inside the residence were two women, a man and three children. One of the women said she heard the gunshots and found Ybarra shot outside.
When an officer asked her if there was contraband in the house, she hesitated, then admitted there were drugs in a “peace sign bag.” The bag contained the 296.5 grams of meth and 45 grams of marijuana.
The man in the residence, Nicholas Joseph Ammesmaki, was arrested when police learned he had outstanding warrants.
Police searched a second house in the 800 block, where they found a Stevens Model 12 gauge shotgun with ammunition similar to shotgun casings found at the scene. They also found several cell phones, eight rifle rounds, a .45 caliber pistol round and two Zolpidem pills.
An officer then drove to Saint Marys because Ybarra said he wanted to speak to him. The officer informed Ybarra that he was under arrest for drug possession. Ybarra told the officer he was “cool” with the neighbors in the other residence searched by police. He also said a vehicle, possible a Chevrolet Impala, drove around the corner and he believed the occupant shot him. He also acknowledged the drugs were his.
Ybarra was transported to the Mower County Jail Tuesday evening.
