Peter Frederick Kent, Sr., 87, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017.

Peter was born in Mason City, Iowa, on March 17, 1930, son of the late Marvel (Hubanks) and Frederick Frank Kent of Austin, Minnesota.

Peter protected our freedom by serving in the United States Navy, Army Air Corps, and the United States Army. He served in the Korean War (1950-1951) as a machine gunner. He was deployed with his helicopter unit from Germany to Beirut, Lebanon in 1958 due to an uprising. He also served two tours in the Vietnam War (1968-1971) in aviation. Peter was a career serviceman.

Pete’s two greatest loves were his family and the game of golf; he was an avid golfer. He thoroughly enjoyed the game for 55 years.

On Feb 9, 1953, Peter married Doris Miller “the love of his life,”  in Osage, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Kent of Salina; two daughters, Susan Kent (Dean Lynaugh), of Gilbert, Arizona, and Cynthia Brockway (Gregory), of Salina; grandson, Joshua Brockway (Kate), of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter, Jennifer Cruz, (Robert) of San Diego, California; and great-grandson, Robert Gregory Cruz, of San Diego, California.

Peter is preceded in death by his father, Frederick Kent; mother, Marvel (Hubanks); brother, David Kent; son, Peter F. Kent Jr.; and daughter, Rebecca Kent.

Cremation has been chosen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, Salina, with Pastor Douglas Birdsong officiating.

A luncheon will follow the service.
