A Moose Lake man who caused police to close two roads in Austin in 2016 will be serving more prison time
Tom Heuangsayaseng, 32, who is currently in prison for felony third-degree drug sales and felony domestic assault, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for felony domestic assault in Mower County District Court on Monday. Two other charges, felony third-degree assault and gross misdemeanor theft, were dropped as part of a plea deal on June 23.
According to the court report, Austin police went to the 600 block of 10th Street Northeast on March 31, 2016, after being alerted that a resident living there was being abused by. Police shut down the road during the incident.
The victim said she had been out with a friend the night before when Heuangsayaseng showed up at the house demanding money. Police noted injuries to the victim’s face, neck, arms and left leg.
The victim said she told her kids to tell their teachers she was being beaten by Heuangsayaseng when she woke them up for school and that she could not call 911 because he took her phone. Police interviewed the children, who confirmed Heaunsayseng had beaten the victim.
The victim said she left the house to pick up one of her children from school. When she returned home, Heuangsayaseng was gone, having taken her cell phone and $800 in cash.
Heuangsayaseng was found the next day hiding in a house at the 200 block of 12th Avenue Southwest and was arrested after police again closed the road and called in the Special Incident Response Team. Police blocked off the street during the search. Three people at the house, Miranda Marie Brede, Shalayna Dee Belden and Andrew Lynn Gulbrandson, were all charged with felony aiding an offender. Brede and Gulbrandson took plea agreements for the felony charge, while Belden took a deal for misdemeanor obstructing the legal process.
Heuangsayaseng was convicted of fifth-degree assault in 2006 and third-degree assault in 2011. He was sentenced last July to three years in prison for felony third-degree drug sales and felony domestic assault in prior cases.
