An officer who stopped to replenish her squad car ended up getting bitten on the leg by a man she arrested.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, an officer stopped by Gold Cross on 10th Street Northwest when she was approached by a group of distraught people at 6:09 p.m. on Saturday. The people told her their brother was “going crazy” and was trying to grab a knife. The parents, who spoke little English, approached her. They were also distraught.

The officer called for back up. Officers then approached the man, Pablo Nunez, 24, of Austin, and subdued him at Taser points.

Officers cuffed Nunez on the ground, at which point he began to bang his head on the concrete. Officers then moved him to the grass, where he bit the responding officer on the leg. The bite was not serious and the officer continued to work her shift.

Nunez was taken to Mower County Jail where he is awaiting possible charges of domestic assault-fear, second-degree assault and felony fourth-degree assault on a peace officer.

A family member stated that Nunez had a history of mental illness.
