Jean H. Nelson, 95

Jean H. Nelson, 95, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Auburn Manor Care Center in Chaska, Minnesota.

Jean Harriet Schubert was born Feb. 13, 1922, in Caledonia, Minnesota, to Edward P. and Hilda C. (Nupson) Schubert. Following her graduation from Austin High School, Jean went to work for Hormel Foods Corporation.  She married John L. Nelson on Dec. 30, 1939, in Iowa. The couple moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and then to Oakland, California, to work in the shipyards. They returned to the Austin area in 1945. John passed away in 1986. Jean like to work with her hands, and especially enjoyed handiwork like hardanger and tatting. She also liked to knit and crochet.  As a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Jean belonged to the WELCA Circle and volunteered in the church office.  She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her sons, Jon L. Nelson of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Kirk E. Nelson of Visalia, California; her daughters, Janice H. McKay of Chaska, Hjordis (Jordan A. ‘Jim’) Glover of Wayzata, Minnesota, Pamela M. (Kenneth) Campbell of Las Vegas, Nevada; nine grandchildren, Stacey Bosacker, Shauna Koop, John E. McKay, Cathryn J. Thrasher, Crystalyn J. Glover, Catey Nelson, Ali Nelson, Jesse Campbell, Kirk E. Campbell; and 18 great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; her grandson, Dr. Chad Nelson; and her sister, Genevieve Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
