FEMA awards Mower over $4K

The Minnesota State Set-Aside Committee for the FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program has recommended $4,420 be awarded to Mower County, and local organizations can apply to receive a share of the money.

Local governmental or private voluntary organizations are only eligible to receive funds if they meet the following criteria:

•Non-profit

•Have a checking account and accounting system

•Practice non-discrimination

•Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs

•Have a voluntary board

Qualifying organizations may apply by Aug. 4. The funds are awarded through the Department of Homeland Security and are distributed at the determination of a local board consisting of the Salvation Army, Veterans Services, Austin and Mower County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, United Way, Semcac, Human Services, churches and other interested organizations.
