Mower County sheriff’s deputy was almost hit by a car after a routine traffic stop Saturday night.
According to Mower County Deputy Sheriff Mark May, a sheriff’s deputy had just finished making a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 218 South just south 29th Avenue at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and was walking to his car when he saw another vehicle coming over the fog line. The deputy then had to jump into the ditch to avoid being hit. The other vehicle sideswiped the deputy’s car, breaking off the side mirror.
The driver of the vehicle, Alysha McCoy, 19, of Austin, was cited for driving without insurance and driving without a valid license.
The Minnesota State Patrol assisted the Mower County Sheriff’s Department with the crash. The amount of damage to the deputy’s vehicle has not yet been assessed.
