Kirk Edwin James Gilbert, 31, of Marble, Minnesota, formerly of Lyle, Minnesota, died Sunday, July 16, 2017.

Kirk was born in 1986 to Michael Gilbert and Kristi Gustafson in Bigfork, Minnesota. He grew up in Bigfork and graduated from Bigfork High School in 2004.

Kirk was united in marriage to Jillien O’Brien on Dec. 3, 2011. He was employed as a diesel mechanic and built grain bins as a steel construction worker.

He loved ice fishing, spearing, grouse hunting, and watching movies with his boys. He also enjoyed watching and participating in all sports.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Jacob Nelson; paternal grandfather, James Gilbert; and his maternal grandfather, Edwin Kaczor.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Jillien; two sons, Olaf and Odin; father, Michael Gilbert of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; mother, Kristi (Paul) Gustafson of Bigfork; sister, Julia (Randy Collins) Nelson of Bigfork; three brothers, Kyle (Kandis) Gilbert of Coleraine, Minnesota, William (Josie Johnson) Gilbert of Cohasset, Minnesota and Jaren Gustafson of Bigfork; paternal grandmother, Shirley Gilbert of Biwabik, Minnesota; maternal grandmother, Amber Kaczor of Bigfork; step-mother, Laura Gilbert of Grand Rapids; step-sisters, Susan (Skyler) Hilborn of Cohasset and Amanda Martin of Grand Rapids; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be Friday, July 21, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a time of sharing at 11:30 a.m., at Gunn Park in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The Rev. Greg Cook will officiate.
