A Brooklyn Center woman will serve two years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to gross misdemeanor criminal neglect in Mower County Court on Monday.

Rosalba Perez-Rangel, 36, was sentenced to a stayed sentence of one year in jail, meaning she’ll serve two years of probation as long she follows nine conditions. She must also pay $385 in fines.

She was charged with two felony and two gross misdemeanor counts of criminal neglect in April 2013 after two vulnerable adults she was supposed to be taking care of said she abandoned them. Austin police found them living in filth in a house that reeked of urine and had plates and containers with old food strewn about the place.

The victims said Perez-Rangel collected rent from them, but did not pay rent on the house. They claimed she would not wash their laundry or cook for them, feeding them only what she did not eat.

A social worker claimed Perez-Rangel was cashing the victims’ social security checks.

Perez-Rangel initially pleaded not guilty to the charges in April of 2013. She failed to appear in court at least four times between October 2013 and August 2015, and several warrants were issued for her arrest in that time.
