An Austin woman is facing charges after deputies found her intoxicated, acting disorderly and endangering a child.

Nyakier James Thiach, 24, pleaded not guilty to two charges of felony fourth-degree assault, a gross misdemeanor child endangerment charge and a gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process charge in Mower County District Court on Thursday.

According to court records, Thiach was arrested on June 14 after Mower County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at her mother’s apartment in Adams. She was allegedly intoxicated and holding an 11-month old infant when she yelled at the first arriving deputy that she wanted her kids out of her mother’s apartment. She then called the deputy “racist” and began swearing.

The commotion caused other apartment residents to open and close their doors. She then went outside with the child, where she allegedly continued swearing and yelling racial slurs.

The deputies and a cousin attempted to get the infant away from Thiach, who allegedly squeezed the child tight enough to make it cry. When they got the infant away from her, she allegedly kicked and swung her arms at the deputies, clawing one of them on the forearm. She also allegedly spat on a deputy’s face when she was handcuffed. While being transported to jail, Thiach allegedly continued to spit in the car and repeatedly kick the partition.

Thiach is schedule to go to trial in November.
