Water Festival returns in July

Mark your calendar to attend the fourth annual Water Festival on July 10-15 at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.

This is a free community event. Each day there will be a different event planned. Check it out on their website at www.hormelnaturecenter.org.

Volleyball camp

Students interested in volleyball can sign up for the Austin Volleyball Camp at our office. Camp dates are July 17-19 and is held in Austin High School’s Packer Gym.

The cost is $35 which includes a t-shirt. This camp is open to those students in grades three to 12th. Students in ninth to 12th grades will meet from noon to 2 p.m.; sixth to eighth-grade from 2 to 4 p.m. and  third to fifth-grade from 4 to 5:30 p.m.  If you have questions you may contact Cindy Owen at cindyo1978@gmail.com.

Riverside Arena

When it is hot outside this next week get a great workout on skates during your lunch hour.

Riverside Arena is open to skate from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Skate for just $2 per session.

Need skates? They are available to rent for $1.  This is a great calorie burner while you stay out of the sun and cool down on the ice. We will offer this through the summer. July will have some dates which will not be available due to hockey camps.

Riverside Arena schedule:  We will have summer ice. Think about renting the arena for a skating party, call our office for details.

Adult Open Hockey: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 28. Cost is $6 per person for each event. You must be 16 and  goalies are free.

Public skate: 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday; 4:30 to 6 p.m. July 6 and 6 to 8 p.m. on July 8. The cost is $4 to skate plus $1 if you need to rent skates.

Stick time: Watch Facebook for more or give us a call on times that work for you.

Free goali clinic: 5 to 6 p.m. July 9 and 4:30 to 6 p.m. July 16.

Swimming pool

The Municipal Pool is open!    Our hours are: 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday; 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings; 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

We are hosting some swim meets that will impact some of our week-end hours. We plan to have the splash pad open during these times free of charge. Season membership can be purchased at our office, located in City Hall, or at the pool during open hours.  Rates are $30 per person, we do not offer a family pass.

Daily admission is $3 for the afternoon sessions and $2 for the evening sessions, those age 2 and under are free. Everyone entering the pool must purchase a pool membership or pay the daily fee. Register for summer swimming lessons at our office. We offer four, two week sessions beginning June 19. Classes are offered from 10 a.m. to noon and 4:45 to 6:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may check availability at our office.

Save the date and watch for details on the Family Fun Night at the pool, 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday July 14.

Nature center

There are still opening for the Nature’s Color Walk class on Tuesday at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.

Austin Bruins

The Austin Bruins main try-out camp is coming July

Registration is at 1 p.m. on July 11 with mini games at 3 to 9. Games will then be played 8 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. on July 12 and 10 a.m. to 6:45 on  July 13. From 10 to 11:15 a.m. on July 14 the first all star game  will be held and the final all-star game will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
