Three area athletes named All-State

A trio of area athletes received All-State honors for this past spring.

Blooming Prairie junior first baseman Brad Staska and Hayfield senior pitcher Adam Fjerstad were selected to the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association Class A All-State baseball team and Hayfield junior shortstop Carrie Rutledge was selected to the first team All-State for the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Class A team.

Staska hit .530 with one homer, nine doubles, two triples and 23 RBIs this past season for BP. Staska struck out just six times in 73 plate appearances.

Fjerstad went 8-4 on the mound for Hayfield, which finished second in the Section 1A tournament. He had an ERA of 2.11 as he struck out 61 batters on the season, while walking 18.

Fjerstad will play college baseball at Bethany Lutheran College.

Rutledge hit .553 for Hayfield as she racked up eight doubles, four triples, two homers, 29 RBIs and 42 runs. The Vikings took fourth in the Minnesota Class A state softball tournament.
