Bicycling enthusiasts rejoice! The Prairie Vision’s 19th annual Shooting Star Trail Bike Ride will be held this weekend from 6:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

“The ride is a good fundraiser for the trail,” said Jon Burkhart, sales manager at Rydjor Bike in downtown Austin. All of the money raised is used for the upkeep of the trail.

Cyclists will have several riding options from which to choose: 20 and 40-mile exerciser ride, 50-mile workout ride, 62-mile (metric century) ride or a 100-mile century ride. A four-mile fun ride is available for ages 12 and younger or 70 and older. The 20-mile route will remain on the bike trail, while the 62 and 100-mile routes will incorporate rural county roads.

The rides will begin and end at the Trailhead at 309 W Lowell St. in LeRoy. The towns of Rose Creek, Taopi, Ostrander and Adams will be included in the routes. Checkpoints will be available along the routes, as will rest stops with food and water.

Burkhart hopes that next year’s ride will include the finished portion of the Shooting Star Trail in Austin.

“There is a group from Austin that participates in the 100-mile ride every year,” he said. “They usually finish in five to six hours. They take it very seriously.”

“It’s a good family event,” he added.

Registration for the event costs $15 if you plan to ride, or $25 if you plan to ride and purchase a t-shirt. There is no entry fee for the four-mile fun ride.
